Class Teacher Mrs Chambers

A day in the life of Micklegate

We begin the day at 8.50 with the register and our Restorative Practice check in!

Reading Squad is next at 9.00. Every child reads in a small group, working on tasks to improve our skills in prediction, retrieval, inference and summarising.

At 9.20 we have Overteach. We spend 25 minutes revisiting our learning from the day before which enables us to really understand our learning.

English starts at 9.45. We use our class books to inspire our writing, exploring new vocabulary and developing our English skills. We use our Chromebooks daily to support our learning and even create exciting pieces of writing.

10.45 is our morning break time! We enjoy getting fresh air and playing with friends on our lovely playground. We can also play ball games in our MUGA.

When we come back into class at 11.00, we have our daily whole class reading. We enjoy reading as a class, exploring the text, sharing our thoughts and improving our reading fluency.

Between 11.30 and 12.30 is Maths. We teach through mastery, following small steps of progression in line with the White Rose curriculum. This ensures we continue to improve our arithmetic, alongside problem solving and reasoning skills.

After Maths, we have a 15 minute boost session. This gives us a chance to revisit and practise key skills such as times tables or spellings.

12.45 – 1.30 is lunch time! We can either opt for a delicious hot school lunch or bring a packed lunch from home, before joining our wonderful playworkers on the playground.

In the afternoons we learn through our exciting whole school topics, covering all subject areas! For more information about our current topic, see below!

On Wednesday afternoon, we have Spanish, PE and Music lessons led by specialist teachers. School provides a PE kit for every child.

From 3.15 to 4.15, Monday to Thursday, we are extremely lucky to have Enrichment.

Children in Years 5 and 6 are allowed to walk home from school without a parent/carer with their parents permission. Please note children in Years 5 and 6 can bring a mobile telephone to school, these must be handed into the class teacher for safekeeping each morning. Phones are brought in at your own risk.

Seesaw/Google Classroom

In Micklegate, we all have access to our own Chromebooks. This means we are able to record our wonderful work in all subject areas as well as developing our computing skills. Using Seesaw, we can also share our learning with family members. If you need any help accessing the app, we would be happy to assist!

Highlights!

Using concrete apparatus to investigate cube numbers.
Creating a human timeline.

Exploring the artist Kandinsky.
Using Picasso to inspire self portraits, using colour to show emotion.
