A message from the Head of School…

The children have been working incredibly hard this week, learning all about their new topic ‘Made in Yorkshire’. If parents have any specialist knowledge about Yorkshire, then we would
love to have you in school to talk to the children. Every morning all children across school from Reception to Year 6 take part in our daily Reading Squad. Reading squad starts at 8.50 and a specialist team of staff come into class to help listen to every child read and develop their comprehension skills. Reading squad makes a significant impact on your children’s reading
ability. Please ensure they are at school on time to benefit from this. Thank you for your support.

Being at School on Time

We are writing to all children’s families to emphasise the importance of being in school on time as there have been numerous incidents of some families routinely arriving at school after 8.50am. School starts at 8.40 am every day. Children need to be in their class line at 8.40 am so that they can start their lessons promptly. Children who arrive late are greatly disadvantaged because they miss starting the day with their peers and the beginning of lessons. This means that they are often unsettled and confused about tasks. Their teacher will not always be able to re explain work. It is essential that you ensure that your child arrives at school on time to prevent disruption to your child’s own learning and that of others. We are legally required to monitor children’s punctuality and attendance. On-going lateness (after the class register has been taken) is classified as an unauthorised absence and
this is contrary to The Education Act. We understand that there may be rare occasions when you are unavoidably late due to unforeseen circumstances. Over the next few weeks, the Wellbeing team will be monitoring ‘lates’. If your child is regularly late you will be invited to a 6 week attendance program to help support you and your family arrive on school on time. Thank you for your
support on this matter.
