Haxby Road News 13.3.20

A message from the Co-Heads of School…

All children have had another exciting week of learning linked to their Fragile Earth Curriculum topic. On Monday, we had a special visit from Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park. The children participated in a workshop where they learned about endangered habitats and species. They particularly enjoyed handling the creatures and learning some interesting facts about them. We would like to thank the Friends of Haxby Road who funded this event for the children.

Special Person’s Breakfast

We would like to remind all parents who have children in Tiny Steps, Nursery and Reception to come along and enjoy a special breakfast. This will be an exciting opportunity for you to enjoy spending some time with your child. You will be able to see the fantastic work that they have been learning in their classrooms.

Tiny Steps: Monday 16th March or Thursday 19th March at 8:30am

Nursery: Monday 16th March or Thursday 19th March at 8:40am

Reception: Wednesday 18th March at 8:30am

Polite Notice

Please can we ask parents not to arrive too early when picking up children at the end of the school day due to safeguarding and security reasons. Please try to arrive no more than five minutes early before your child’s pick up time.

Thank you for your support.

Gentle Reminder – ParentPay

When using ParentPay, please can you ensure that school lunches and nursery fees are paid in advance. Thank you.

Nature Friendly Whole School Project

The children in school have been working together to decide what they would like to change in our school. Together the children shared their ideas and then democratically they voted for the best idea. As a result of this, the children have decided that they would like to take action as Active Citizens to improve the school environment so that the outdoor space can be a safe, exciting and interesting place to learn for everyone.

The children in year 6 produced letters with the aim to seek help from the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. In response to their letters sent, the YWT wrote back to year 6 and said that they will be able to offer the teachers some training for outdoor learning activities.  They are also going to give school some free resources to use in school.

Year 5 wrote to Rachel Maskell, who is the local MP for York, and are awaiting her response. All children are very excited about leading their own school improvement.
