Welcome to Haxby Road Primary Academy Nursery

Nursery is often a child’s first venture alone into the world outside their family home. Our staff provide a stimulating, safe, warm and homely environment where children can play, explore, talk, learn – and giggle – as they build lasting friendships.

We believe in nurturing each child’s unique qualities and potential as well as supporting each family through building strong relationships.

We believe our Early Years is an extra special place where each child can take their own steps together to explore and discover the world. What children experience in Nursery can create strong and lasting foundations on which to build in later life, so we believe it is essential that the experiences are of the highest quality.

“The carefully planned work in ‘Tiny Steps’, the new provision for two-year-olds, and Nursery,
means that the starting points for children entering Reception are now much stronger.”

, Ofsted Report, December 2016

Our Early Years team members are:

Laura Woodward: Deputy Head of EYFS and Specialist Leader of Education in Early Years
Caroline Wilkinson: Nursery Teacher, BA Hons in Early Education
Poppy Cole: Level 3 practitioner
Sara Hannington: HLTA practitioner
The staff build upon what children already know and can do, promote their self-confidence, autonomy, independence, and fulfillment. Children have opportunities to play, learn and develop as they experience a range of adult led and child initiated activities.

Our staff make regular assessments of children’s the learning and development. This information is used to ensure that future planning reflects identified needs. Using individual profiling and tracking, children’s learning in monitored throughout EYFS and school.

We offer children rich experiences in a variety of situations, in learning environments that stimulate and invite them to engage holistically and emotionally both indoors and outdoors.
